Wellbeing Doesn’t Always FEEL . . . well . . . WELL!

Here’s how I’m facing this year’s daunting challenges. Who’s in? – Kimberly

With all of the hatred unleashed in the 2016 US elections, I’ve been struggling to regain my send of wellbeing. Then I remembered . . .

WELLBEING ISN’T NECESSARILY EASY. Sometimes I fret that “wellbeing” will be misinterpreted as “Life should always be easy.” How dull would that be?!! My work mostly involves tackling challenges that most people claim are very difficult, highly unlikely, or darned near impossible, and I find the work absolutely exhilarating! Yes, I feel quite “well” when I’m in the midst of such circumstances, meeting tough challenges while shaking in my boots, staying committed to results that seem unattainable. Wahoo! For me, wellbeing isn’t endless days of paddling a lazy canoe toward my ultimate resting place (RIP). While I sometimes enjoy the tranquility of a quiet stream, I’m sure I’d go completely bonkers if I had to experience peace, calm and tranquility every moment of my life. Truly.Continue reading

Continuing our exploration into envisioning your family’s fabulous future . . .

Stage 1 – Planning is the first step in creating your successful family. One extremely effective way to do this planning is to ask powerful questions. These are questions designed to expand thinking and enrich discussions. Don’t look for easy answers – it’s the dialogue they spark that is valuable. And don’t rush through these discussions. Time spent pondering these questions is time well spent, and will accelerate your progress through the other stages as well as towards your goals and dreams. Continue reading

“Hopelessly” Stuck? Get Unstuck in 6 Easy Steps

pic14558.jpgIt’s easy to get stuck.  From time to time it happens to everyone.  One foot nailed to the floor, we go ’round and ’round – full speed ahead, but with no progress.  Eventually we wonder why the scenery looks hauntingly familiar.  If we’re lucky someone will throw a bucket of cold water in our face and shout “What in cripes sake are you doing?!!”  If not, well, we might wake up a decade later and wonder why we’re still struggling with the same issue-infested life we ended the century with.  With 2010 nearly upon us, it’s time to steal a glance in the rear view mirror and do a little reality check.  Does the road ahead look exactly like the one behind?  If so, how are you likin’ it?  If you’re not absolutely jazzed about being alive, eager to leap out of bed and get engaged in the banquet of a day spread out before you, you might want to make a few changes before the clock ticks another tock.Continue reading

The Ultimate Question

hand_water_ring-solo.jpgWhat SEEMS impossible, but if it WERE possible, would transform your job, your team, your company, heck . . . YOUR LIFE . . . for the better?  That is the paradigm-shifting question that I learned many years ago from Joel Barker, a Futurist who made a movie called “The Business of Paradigms” a way back in the last century.  The movie has been updated, and now it is cleverly called “The New Business of Paradigms – 21st Century Edition”.  No matter, it’s timeless.  (It had BETTER be, it is only 18 minutes long and it costs almost a thousand bucks!  But the preview is free. Check it out here if you haven’t seen it.  Tell them I sent you and you might even get a discount.)  This question has the power to unlock possibilities that otherwise would peek out from behind the cloak of consciousness, and I have have frequently used it to achieve what seems impossible, but is merely difficult.   Human beings are animals, and we spend a lot of our time on autopilot.  We live many of the minutes, hours and days of our lives in some kind of trance state, highly functioning, no doubt, but not exactly highly consciously aware.  I mean, really, haven’t we all found ourselves at the end of a busy day wanting to shout out “Has anyone seen where the day went?”  And I have personally been on long drives in the car when I suddenly wondered who had been driving the last 100 miles.  Most of my brain was off scampering around somewhere, but fortunately some part of it was driving the damn car!
